When to use a Coach

Coaching can be helpful when it’s recognized that “what got someone here, won’t get them there.” It can focus on general professional or leadership development or on building skills such as giving effective presentations, project management, or managing interpersonal relationships
effectively. Team coaching works to improve team dynamics and processes. In general, coaching helps people to consider ways to adapt their behavior to organizational expectations (Skiffington & Zeus, 2003). Central to successful coaching outcomes are the following:
  • Organizational support
  • The employee’s interest in professional development
  • Investment of time and energy to explore new ideas
  • A good match between the client and the coach.
